Take a winter ride onboard Alaska's Aurora Train between Anchorage and Fairbanks for an unforgettable journey across this quiet frozen land. Winter affords the unique pleasure to experience the Northern Lights, enjoy a soak in a hot spring under an arctic blue sky, and enjoy a plethora of winter snowsports.
The Aurora Winter Train travels northbound on Saturdays, departing Anchorage at 8:30 am, arriving in Fairbanks at 8 pm. The train returns southbound on Sundays, leaving Fairbanks at 8:30 am and arriving at 8 pm in Anchorage. The weekend rail-fly option covers miles of snow-blanketed landscape by rail. We include an overnight hotel stay in Fairbanks and a return flight to complete your weekend.
If you have the opportunity to do so, we recommend that you extend your stay in Fairbanks and go on a guided winter journey by land or air across the Arctic Circle. Or add on an excursion to nearby Chena Hot Springs Resort for a good mineral soak, just 60 miles from Fairbanks. At Chena you can visit the Aurora Ice Museum, the largest year-round ice environment in the world created from over 1,000 tons of ice and snow, climb an Ice Tower, curl up in a Polar Bear Bed, watch a game of life size chess, or pull up a stool at the Stoli Ice Bar and have a martini poured through a sculpted ice fish into your very own sculpted ice glass.
In Anchorage, spend some time enjoying world-class museums, dining and nightlife, and cultural experiences. Begin at the log cabin visitor information center, and leave prepared to go out to explore the town!
