Welcome to Calgary! Known as the “Heart of the New West”, the frontier spirit of Calgary is alive and well amidst the thriving energy sector that has entrenched this city as a corporate powerhouse. Your private chauffeur will greet you at the Calgary International Airport and transfer you to The Fairmont Palliser Hotel for your overnight stay at this lavish Canadian Pacific Hotel, across the street from the station. Dinner will be on your own tonight, allowing you time to explore the many superb restaurants Calgary has to offer.
Your luxury rail tour will depart the Canadian Pacific Railway Pavilion in the morning bound for the world-famous township of Banff, Alberta where you will be able to enjoy some free time for shopping. Returning to the train you will travel a short distance to Lake Louise, Alberta for a guided tour of the area. Once back on the train, you will have a chance to mingle with your traveling companions over cocktails and enjoy a splendid dinner as the sun sets over the Canadian Rockies.
Enjoy the views from an open air vestibule as the train descends through Kicking Horse Pass. This pass was one of the biggest challenges to the building of the transcontinental railroad, now demonstrating the ingenious engineering feat known as the “Spiral Tunnels” which have allowed safe rail movement through the pass since 1909. The train will be stopping in Revelstoke for a tour of the Revelstoke Railway museum and then continuing on through Rogers Pass and the Shushwap Lakes area to Kamloops BC for dinner and an overnight stay.
Bid farewell to Kamloops as the train departs and winds through the Thompson Valley and on to the Fraser Valley. From the train you will have a hill-top view of the awesome Hell’s Gate – a natural gorge of rock walls that forces the mighty Fraser River through a 110 foot wide passage. The train will arrive into Vancouver where you will be treated to a Gala dinner before you spend your final night on the train.
After breakfast, you will be taken to the airport for your flight back home with all of your photographs, souvenirs and hopefully some wonderful memories as well!
